RAID problems

Verification of the RAID array failed. Today I struggled with the basic problem of mirroring when something goes wrong. Basic question is, which of the two disks is faulty when verification fails? The system had no trouble booting which each of the individual disks. Difficult. Any case, I tried rebuilding one disk based on the other and this failed. However rebuilding it the other way around worked. Strange! Can I  still trust these hard disks? Time will tell....
